I work at a Volkswagen dealer ship and we are currently the number one retailer for Golf Rs in the nation.... with that people always come in wanting to just drive it and expect us to let them. no. People always come in wanting a $200 car payment... also no. We need a Website that people can visit that lets them see REALISTIC auto loans and let them see how that deal was structured to get that loan. Car payment calculators are simply not enough. vent over.

How are the calculators inaccurate? user error and ignoring tax/title?

You don’t let the people drive the car they are looking at?

With VWs sales numbers you’d think they would be more accomodating...

From experience, trying to find a golf r to test drive is very difficult. In 2 months of searching, I found one 90 min from me when I was looking for a new car. When I spoke with the the dealership they knew what they had and wouldn’t guarantee I would be able to drive the car unless I put a 2k deposit down. So I never test drove one. I said to my self, I’ll drive the next best thing, an Audi S3. Bought the Audi that day. 100% worth it.

If you run the cost of the car through a simple auto loan calculator, you can get an idea on where your payment will be. Even just dividing the cost of the car by the term of the loan you want can give you a ballpark monthly payment, for a loan.

“number one retailer for Golf Rs in the nation.... with that people always come in wanting to just drive it and expect us to let them. no.”

This is good practice.

Everyone knows the Golf R is made from Snowflakes and Kitten Farts. This is the only way to preserve the ultimate machine that is the R..

¡¡¡Sarcasm ahead!!!

What’s missing, a basic understanding of accounting and finance by the general public. And the government allowing the auto industry to be the Wild West of financing world.

Also, with any calculator. Put crap in, get crap out. If I say I’m buying a $50,000 car for $35,000 and I’m going to get double the value of my trade. A $50,000 car quickly becomes $25,000 and now consumers think they can afford a normally unaffordable.

With the Golf R if the customer IS looking for one then for sure they will drive the car but we get a lot of traffic that aren't looking to buy and just want to drive it to say they drove one.

People can say all they want, we don't just let them out for test drive to anyone... it is our performance model that are very limited...

A lot of buyers use the calculator and input the lowest APR with a ridiculous number on their trade and then see the magical payment of $200-300 a month on a $35k car and then complain when they fall C tier and a $600 car payment.. that being said we have people on the flip side who come in timid and scared that they can’t afford what they need and actually can afford a whole lot more. I.e. I had a customer who hadn’t bought a car in over 10 years and he was worried about his credit and the fact he might not be able to buy the beetle he was looking at but when we did he had A+ credit and could buy ANYTHING on our lot and stay in the payment he wanted to be in. I just think customer should be fed realistic information on purchasing a car, this is partially the auto industries fault when they advertise the cheap lease and the huge down payment in print so small they can’t read it. From personal experience, I like when the dealers are real and vise versa.

It would be much different if you or another opponut went into a showroom and tried to buy a car but most people aren't "car people" so they are just simply clueless.

when I bought my focus st they gave me the bottom line after ttl and then said good news we can get you 2.9% financing for 3 year or 5 year loan. I told them what my down would be and they spit out monthly numbers. when I checked the interest rate times the duration and cost remaining of the car the payment they pitched me were $20 more per month. I then went to capital one and showed them there online payment calculator like you are describing and there payments agreed with the basic calculator math I did in front of the dealer. I said if you explain how you got your numbers ill buy the car and handed him the calculator. he said sir we don’t know how to do that we just put in all in the computer an it tells us what you pay. I said ok no deal im buying outright and going to the bank. can you explain why dealers do shady shit like this? a car loan is not a complex math equation its quite simple to do and I feel like they screw over countless people who hear 1.9% wow that’s awesome where do I sign?
